The Old Chapel Centre, licensed according to the rites and practices of the United Reformed Church, is a place of worship which is suitable for ceremonies of a Christian nature. This means that your wedding will be a legal, fully licensed ceremony which does not require you to attend a registry office. Whilst our emphasis is always to celebrate the Christian faith, we are flexible and willing to open the doors to couples who wish to embrace faith in a variety of ways.

Our Minister is happy to provide guidance to help couples create a wedding service with their own personal choice in music and readings, ensuring each wedding is a unique experience for every couple.

Our Wedding Planner can assist you with other things you might need to make your day perfect in every way. This is a unique opportunity to combine the atmosphere of a Church with the freedom of a non-conformist service.

Please note that The Old Chapel Centre is NOT licensed for Civil Ceremonies – that is, legally approved marriage ceremonies with no religious content, conducted by the superintendent registrar or deputy. Nor is it licensed for same sex marriage. There are other venues in Alfriston, such as Alfriston Village Hall and Rathfinny Estate & Alfriston Gardens that cater for those who require a civil wedding ceremony.

The Old Chapel Centre is a relatively small and intimate space, right in the heart of the village and adjacent to the Tye (village green). It has a private walled garden and the private car park, close to the Chapel, can be reserved for wedding cars.

The Chapel was built in 1801 and has many of the original features including wooden panelling, upstairs gallery, stained glass windows and a wonderful pipe organ. The building can comfortably accommodate 80 people.

The Old Chapel Centre can be hired for the service only, but many couples choose to stay on afterwards for a champagne reception, light refreshments or a simple buffet.
